This study was conducted to evaluate whether Amlodipine besylate, a statin drug, is effective in preventing coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with high blood pressure and in those with a high risk for stroke, including those with diabetes or high cholesterol. The study began in 2011. Amlodipine besylate was compared with other drugs, including Lipitor, for a total of 5,967 patients with high blood pressure and a risk for stroke (defined as a composite of heart attack, stroke, MI, heart failure and other cardiac risk factors). The study was designed to investigate whether Amlodipine besylate, a statin drug, was effective in preventing CAD. The study enrolled about 250 patients with high blood pressure and a risk for stroke. Patients with a high risk for CAD were excluded from the study, and patients with a low risk for CAD were not included. Patients with a high risk for stroke were also excluded from the study. Patients with a high risk for CAD were given Amlodipine besylate as a drug that could reduce or prevent stroke and/or reduce the risk for CAD.
The study was designed to examine whether Amlodipine besylate, a statin drug, was effective in preventing coronary artery disease (CAD). Norvasc is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure in the body. It lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, which then increases blood flow to the penis, resulting in improved erectile function. Norvasc works by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin II to angiotensin A1 receptor (AT1R) in the body. Lowering blood pressure helps improve erectile function by promoting smooth muscle relaxation.
